Open Problem: Comment E-Mails From Blogger.com

Hi folks -- bloggers Judith (http://judithheartsong.blogspot.com/) and Mâvarin (http://outmavarin.blogspot.com/) have both written in to let me know that AOL members using Blogger aren't receiving comment notification e-mails.

I have tested and confirmed this.

Blogger's comment notification e-mails function in similar fashion to AOL Journals' comment alerts -- if you turn them on, you get an e-mail whenever someone leaves a comment in your blog.

The AOL Postmaster/Mail Operations team is looking into this right now; the Blogger IP addresses (the numbers that tell where something lives on the Internet -- IP addresses are dotted quads, or a set of four numbers separated by dots, e.g. 255.255.255.255) are on the whitelist, which means that e-mail from those IPs is allowed, but they're still not getting through for some reason.

The AOL Mail team will work with the Blogger folks to get this fixed.

Some of the more suspicious among you may ascribe sinister motives to this problem, but this isn't the case.

Anyway, I will post more information when I get it.

[Update, 1/18: I don't have official word yet from anyone, but my test accounts are getting the comment notification mails again.]

 Thanks. -- Joe

Aw c'mon Joe.  Sinister conspiracy thinking is fun.  Just look at the popularity of American Idol.  Wait till the first "good" singer goes home before the "bad" singer.

Thanks for helping us out here, though.  It's much appreciated.

Thank you for looking into this Joe.  It's greatly appreciated!

thank you very much for working on this Joe..... "Bill" with the aol postmaster team did not seem to be aware in our phone conversation that this IP address was on the whitelist.... he said that he needed to hear from and email administrator from blogspot to clear this up. Quite interesting. Still wondering about conspiracy theories.........
Please keep us posted.

Seems to be the same issue with Changenotes.com!

I was getting notified for updates to blogs outside of AOL, but now I'm not.... for about 2 weeks now :(

Is it on the whitelist?

Thanks, Joe :)

Thanks for the update, Joe, and thanks to everyone at AOL and Blogger who is working on this.  I assumed it was something along these lines, but I'm surprised that the tech data indicates that it "should" be going through, even though it isn't.  Good luck tracking down the problem!

Automated mail from Bloglet, Feedblitz and Google is being blocked by AOL recently, too.
:-(
Could you pass the word on, please?

Hi...I've asked the Mail Ops and Journals teams to take a look and see what's up. Thanks -- Joe

Another piece of info - I have comments moderation enabled for my blogspot journal (that's where I see and approve the comments before they are posted), and I *AM* getting the notifications/alerts.

Hey,
I tried to leave a comment on Judi's (Judith HeartSong's) blog but nothing happened.  I tried other blogs and they opened to the posting page right away.  What happened and how can I correct it?  Is it something I can correct?
Thanks.

I just wanted to let you know that the only mailer demon messages I get are for @aol.com addresses too.  I am getting my alerts for blogger but that is because my alerts are going to my godaddy.com e-mail and not my AOL e-mail that I still pay for because of my banking that I can't get untangled.

Anyone with aol e-mail is getting returned.

I've had the same problem Joe, I wasn't getting comment alerts from Blogger at my AOL email address..as soon as I changed the address in my Blogger account to my Gmail, I then started receiving the alerts right away. Thanks for looking out for us Blogger people. :-)

For what it's worth, unlike "upseted" below, new entry alerts automatically sent to my AOL email address by both FeedBlitz and Bloglet are coming through--many of them in duplicate one or two days apart.

On another issue, I continue to find no response when clicking the "show recent" link on some, but not all, AOL journals.  It did not work just now on your journal.

"The AOL Mail team will work with the Blogger folks to get this fixed."

Then why do I keep hearing that AOL's mail team is telling us to contact blogger for them to resolve this issue. If they screwed this up, they should work together and keep us out of it.

I don't get paid by AOL to fix your problems that you have, do I? No.

This is not a new problem. For years I have been plagued by it. Mail from certain addresses just seems not to get through. Attempting to verify my e-mail address in order to use MSN messenger. Waiting for e-mail confirmation of membership to an online forum. A couple of months ago I was attempting to communicate with my insurance company via e-mail. Not only could I not seem to receive e-mails from them, they never received any of the e-mails I sent to them either. Just one of those little things we learn to live with because our wives and children won't let us cancel AOL in favour of a service that actually works.

hey joe - any answers as to why all my favorite places has been wiped clean?

anyone else having this problem?

Hi...sorry, I haven't experienced any problems with Favorite Places. Your best bet would be to check with Help -- here is a relevant help article:
http://help.aol.com/help/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=http--helpchannelsaolcom-kjumpadparticleId219016&sliceId=&dialogID=136450465

If that doesn't work, you may need to call Member Services.

Thanks,

HUMPH......YA know...I just get more and more disgusted...

Now, now, Joe, I do remember being told there would be no banner ads for our journals and we were lied to. Now you are saying you guys are not purposely deflecting our emails from Blogger? It's hard to believe the AOL Overlords at this point. I am not saying you are lying just that you may have been lied to as well.
Forgive me, I am still a bit gun-shy when it comes to anything the Overlords say.

addressing an earlier comment...... we are not going to "learn to live with" this issue....... it needs to be resolved or some may start to feel that our email is being censored. That would be dangerous territory.

Update to my previous comment - I am also not getting comment alerts from Blogger.  Someone earlier had said they hadn't been getting them for two weeks, and I knew that I had been getting them during the time they weren't, but now, for the past week, I have not.

It's more serious with me because I have comment moderation enabled, so if I don't get the emails, THE COMMENT NEVER SHOWS UP IN THE JOURNAL, EITHER.  It is totally lost.  And I don't even know it's been lost, and people are annoyed because they think I've censored their comment.

I also have NOT been receiving emails that I expect to receive, like purchase receipts from online shopping sites, emails containing the intial password for a brokerage account, and so on.  SOME OF THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT!!!

The worst part is, we don't know what all we HAVEN'T received!

AOL email is BROKEN BIG TIME!

Yet another service that we PAY for, that doesn't get delivered.

Sinister motives?  Maybe?  Incompetence?  Likely.

Poor customer service?  Definitely.

Hi Joe :)

It's weird. I haven't been receiving my alerts from Blogger, for about 2 weeks or so, but yesterday I recieved one comment alert about a comment that was left for me about a week ago or so...then nothing else. How did that one get by? Curious.

Hi Joe,
I am really hoping you all will have some news on Monday about this situation.... I will check back.
