Hi folks...so, earlier today, I was at work, doing my thing, when all of a sudden I started hearing Christmas music (featuring a lot of brass) from somewhere.
I figured that someone was playing some holiday music, maybe from a CD or an e-card or something.
(Sound carries pretty far in cubicle-land.)
Then I heard applause. So I picked up my camera and took a look:I know there's an in-house jazz band, but I didn't realize we had a holiday brass trio. They were pretty good, too.
Camera still in hand, I went over to the Christmas tree in the lobby and took a snap of that:I set my camera on a conveniently-placed railing, turned off the flash, set it for long shutter, and used the 2-second self-timer to reduce camera shake from pressing the button. I think it came out pretty well.
As a reminder: If you want to add big photos to your own blog, you can check out my step-by-step tutorial.
Thanks. -- Joe

my children think the AOL tree should have more computer-ish decorations, like computer mice hanging on the limbs, maybe a keyboard under the tree ect.
maybe next year...

how festive ya ll are up there
Looking so nice with people & the trees, that reminded me of joining right in to play music with them.
It's wonderfully refreshing to see a place of business that's not afraid to openly celebrate the holiday. I used to work at a place several years ago that didn't even allow us to put up a Christmas tree.
Thanks for sharing the pics. Have a glorious holiday, Joe! :-)

AOL could offset all the Bad Anner stuff by having a J-Land Party/convention. I've been kicking the idea around with some people, and it'd probably be no more troublesome than a large wedding in a difficult family.
It's good publicity- if 50 or 5000 people show up, the publicity is roughly the same. You could get a few commercials out of it. You make smaller companies seem more impersonal (not easy to do). Even if it effs up, you're not out that much money. We all get to eat. You could probably fit it in a hotel ballroom. Hell... maybe someone will get laid!
It'd sort of be like a really dorky Woodstock, just with less drugs, sex and hippies.
I can do all the logistical stuff if AOL comes correct with the cheddar, although I'd recommend getting someone who actually is in that particular line of work for the job.
Spend little, reap big. It's Bread and Circus. I'm amazed no one has thought of it already.
If need be, have your people call my people. They have my number and one of my pseudonyms at the sports desk.
They also should have put everyone's bonus in a box under that tree, and dress Ted up as Santa to give them out.
Hey Joe,
I have a question. Lots of J-landers have music playing on their journals. I cannot figure out how to do that on mine. Can you shed some light on this for me? ~Brandie
Hi Brandie,
Another Journaler Brandi has an entry on how to do this -- it seems to work, though I haven't done it myself.

Keep in mind, that if the music file is bigger than 500K, you won't be able to use the Web-based File Manager -- you will have to go to Keyword: FTP or use a standalone FTP client over your AOL connection.
Thanks,
Joe (posted & mailed)
Well, at least they are putting (all) their money to good use...spreading Christmas cheer!
Have a wonderful Christmas, Joe!

Well, just so you know we're not all freewheeling spendthrift wastrels over here, it's an artificial tree... they unpack it and dust it off every year around Thanksgiving, and box it up in January. Thanks -- Joe

Merry Christmas Joe~
That is a jolly looking tree. Neat reflection on the floor with the lights. Perfect advice in the self timer. I use that all the time!
Merry Christmas Joe!

I am thinking we in J-land paid for the band and the tree with the trimmings with our lives being whored out with the banner ads on top of our journals.
But, then again, I may be wrong.
Merry Christmas Joe!
