Update on Saving Entries

Hi all; I got a mail from the tech folks, who think they have a line on
the problem with saving entries -- a fix went in last night. However,
I'm still getting a lot of reports from users who can't save their
entries from inside the AOL client software.

If you're still having trouble, you may need to clear your browser's cache & cookies (even if you've done it before) -- to do this:
  1. Go to Keyword: Preferences
  2. Click Internet [Web] Options
  3. On the right side, where it says "Related Settings", click Internet Explorer settings
  4. In the area marked "Temporary Internet files", click the button that says Delete Files -- This will clear your browser's cache.
  5. Then, also click the button that says "Delete Cookies

Please let me know if this helps or not. I've told the tech
folks that people are still having problems and asked them to keep
investigating, but I've just confirmed with one of my co-workers who
was having the same "can't save" problems this morning (who's not on
the Journals team) that clearing her cache & cookies fixed it for
her.

Thanks -- Joe

Clearing the cache fixed it for me.

Joe, I've already cleared my cache and cookies a bunch of times. That's what they keep telling me to do when I call.  Still can't save entries.  And I've decided it really isn't worth all that work to go outside of AOL to go back to use aol.
Please tell the techs clearing the cache and cookies is NOT always the answer.

Just did it.  Didn't work.

I went to keyword preferences, but I don't see an option to clear the ads. I mean, that's MY preference. And no, it didn't work. I have an easy solution for ya though. You should just get rid of what's causing all these glitches. I mean, no use advertising on journals no one can use.

just thought some people would like to find their friends that are exiting aol journal land..  I found this link at Patricks Place, just in case you want to add to the list or just to find some of your old friends..

I'm putting my entry in your journal comments, since the only way I can access my journal is at work, and I'd just as soon not get fired.

CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

Remember the Tylenol Killer?  I think that maybe nine bottles of Tylenol had been tampered with. The company yanked everything off the shelves immediately.  I think I was in college when that happened, which means it's been 25-30 years.  I still think of Tylenol as a responsible corporate citizen and I always choose Tylenol over generic.  They created an incredibly loyal customer base for themseleves.

OK, so no one's life is at stake here. Then think of the Coke debacle.  I don't even remember what that disgusting new product was called, but the company responded pretty quickly as I recall to a dramatic level of consumer dissatisfation.  Coke was my one and only soft drink and it still is.

A lot of us have posted the same thing -- we have other, cheaper internet access and we've held on to aol for our journals in the face of spousal and familial protest.  Looks like they were right all along.  Why should we even attempt the cache and cookies thing?  IT's YOUR job, aol, to provide us the service for which we pay.  You, aol, have made it perfectly clear that our relationship is strictly a business matter -- don't look to us to behave as a friendly community willing to help you out.

I can't believe this.  You are still not addressing this problem with the ADs on the Journals?!  This is unbelievable.

Wow, the bigwigs must have ordered you to say nothing. Sad, but since when you're our only means to complain, I will continue to do so.

Yes, we are going to keep storming your castles with torches until you encounter this dilemma.

Hi Joe-
I found something from Kathi (Kdwsunshine) that works to fix a save button that isn't working by rebuilding the aol adapter and posted the directions in my journal.  Just wanted to share if anyone else is still having trouble- go here:

Just ignore the abuse, Joe.  Great job!  How do you sleep at night?

And yet you guys continue to not publically address the issue of the disgusting ads in the journals and the mass exodus that it is creating.  Hello?!?!?! You all still out there???  Do customers mean anything to you?!?!?!?

Giving an email address to "file" comments is simply your way of trying to take out of the public view our complaints.

I guess it is probably good everyone is working to transfer their journals now... as I can't see AOL staying in business with while practicing this much contempt toward its customers (you know...we folks that provide your paychecks).

Why pay for something that AOL is giving away for free to AIM customers and what we can get WITHOUT obnoxious advertising many other places?  Don't even need high school math to see how stupid that is.  Wonder how long before your shareholders figure out AOL can't do math.

I am not kidding when I say I give AOL a week to take the banners down off my PAID AOL ACCOUNT JOURNAL or I will be moving on from all my aol services.  Why should I pay for aol when I am treated no better than a free AIM screen name!

Anonymous said...

And I don't buy the line that this was all just a surprise to you all at the last minute, that John's earlier comments that our journals would remain ad free and only AIM free journals would have ads was "true at the time".

There is a lot of business activity that has to happen to institute such a change (the code has to be written and tested - although apparently you guys don't have a QC department and have your customer base serve at your beta testers - the marketing plan has to be put in place, the ads have to be sold, all this is put into your profits forcast for Q3/Q4 of this year.)  This has been in the works for a long time.  John's comments this summer in his blog that our journals would remain ad-free was at best... insincere.  This is a project that has been cooking for sometime.

How about an update on the number of blogs that have gone private or are disappearing completely from AOL?  How about an update on the number of people who are shouting from the mountaintops about Time Warner's greed?  How about an update on the number of people who have signed the online petition?

This boneheaded, indefensible move was brought to you by the geniuses who are running Time magazine into the ground, turning it into People with different colors.  The geniuses who thought they could actually compete with ESPN.  The geniuses who let Buffy the Vampire Slayer go over to UPN.

Do you guys LIKE losing online contributors? Huh?

Anonymous said...

I'm not kidding either. GET THE AD's  off my journal or I will be canceling my service at the end of the week too.  Why should we pay for something we can get for free?

AND, I did what you said, still can't save an entry in my journal.

Save icon still not working.  Still coming in through the back door.  I won't be doing that long.  I'm a front door type of guest.

Been there - done that, Joe, and it doesn't work.
I realize this isn't your fault but until I can save an entry without downloading an external browser I will not be using AOL Journals. There are alternative options and many of us have already exercised that privilege.

Joe,
I cleared cookies and temp files but still cannot save in my journals!

What now???

can do an entry only through explorer.
