Heads-Up: 11/30, 4-6AM ET: Install of Disclaimer and Save Fix (2nd Try)

Hi folks -- the tech folks are going to have another go at installing
the patch; it will start around 4AM ET, Wed, 11/30, and
should be done by 6AM. As with the last try, it will be a rolling install, so there will likely be a small outage, but there shouldn't be one big chunk of time where Journals is down.

I posted the details of the patch last week; it's the same patch, and will do two things: 1. Put disclaimer text under
the ad, and 2. update the location of some files used in authentication
(so that your computer is forced to get the new, correct files); this
is to solve the "can't save entries" problem, though hopefully, the old files should have expired out of your caches by now.

If you have Journals problems after the install, please post your comments to this entry so the tech folks can see them.

I should have a status update on our current open issues in about an hour or so.

Thanks -- Joe

I hope to god this is going to fix the problems for folks who have not been able to post....... that is a good thing.

No disclaimer is good enough to mitigate that MESS at the top of my journal however. Please, please, please aol... either take it off all current journals, or give us the option of totally disabling it so that nobody sees it on our blogs.

If aol thinks we are going to give up on this they are crazy..... this is a year and a half of my inested time and energy that I am fighting for.

A solution for the character set issue is hopefully in the pending news.

Take the ads off the blogs.

JOe....tell the AOL guys we want the ads removed.

It'd still be nice if we had the choice of ads, though I don't want them there in the least.

by the way that is "invested" .... those seizure-inducing ads must have distracted me.
The disclaimer is not enough.

Disclaimer is not good enough. We don't need no stinkin' ads.

Oh did I mention I'm a gamer? Playstation only. There's a friggin' Nintendo  ad above my journal. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I'm in the middle of a boycott with them too!!!!  Now you've done it.

I can't wait to take out my reading glasses so I can see how small the disclaimer text is.  Joe, have I told you lately that the disclaimer just isn't enough?  Let me tell you again.  It isn't enough.

Another one chiming in -- the disclaimer isn't going to satisfy this AOL MEMBER.  If I use my AOL Journals at all, I'll include my own disclaimers.  I doubt the advertisers will like my disclaimers, nor will AOL.  But, hey... the ads don't belong on my blog!  I would never have created an AOL Journal with such an ad banner.  Blogspot is free with no banner ads.  I sincerely hope AOL doesn't think we're giving up this battle with their silly little disclaimers.

WE ARE UNHAPPY PAYING AOL MEMBERS!

(I know it's not your fault.)

The disclaimer is an awful solution...it's not going to change anyone's mind about the ads.

Joe? Saving & fixing would do the trick, but crashing down a computer would do something a lot more worse than it expected. What is your journal really say? Try fixing the whole thing from scratch without making a fatal mistake. Thank you.

In my reality, Joe, this patch means nothing unless it involves removal of the ads.  Disclaimer?  Pffftttt...  Yeah right, as if...
I'm not happy.  Nope, not happy at all...

Tell the bigwigs that the disclaimer is not good enough for the PAYING customers! I will keep my J-land journal open, but only to be a thorn in the side of the advertisers who invade my PAID FOR space.
In the meantime, the community of former J-landers are getting ever so comfy at BlogSpot, an ad banner free journal. If AOL waits too long, we'll never come back.

Wow. A disclaimer. How nice. Thanks. Really means a whole lot. Good job. Hope the AOL Overlords make a lot of money this holiday season. Just not off of me.

Where is my MAGNIFYING glass?  Geeze Louise.

Okay, Joe, you expected a fire storm and some sarcasm right?  Well, just so you know, it isn't you -- it's 'the overlords' that have me ticked off.

I mean, couldn't they have made the disclaimer a COLOR or BOLD or LARGE ENOUGH to read?

What can I possibly add here that people haven't added already on the issue of this disclaimer...?

Maybe I'll just repeat and make it clearer - IT'S NOT ENOUGH. AND IT WAS A PATHETIC ATTEMPT AT THAT. (what is that disclaimer written in, 6pt.?) TRY AGAIN. WE WANT THE ADS GONE.

Thank you for your (lack) of attention...

The problem I have is this. The fact that AOL is now admitting that they're screwing us over doesn't stop the screwing that they're doing.

I am still getting two of each comments!
