Having Problems Saving Entries?

Hi all -- I'm still getting reports of users unable to save entries (both new entries and changes to old entries).

This morning, Journal owners using the AOL software weren't being
recognized as owners of their Journals when they went to their blogs --
the blue buttons weren't showing. That particular problem was
fixed, though this one may be related. If you are still unable to save
entries, please let me know.

The following information will help us figure out the problem:

1. What version of the AOL software are you using (for example, AOL 9.0, AOL 9.0 SE)? What operating system do you use (like Windows XP, or Mac OSX)?

2. What happens when you click the Save button?
Does it give you an error message, or does it just sit there? Also,
does it show anything in the status bar at the bottom of the browser?

3. Are you on a dialup or high-speed connection (like cable or DSL)?

4. Have you tried deleting your browser's cookies? Did that do anything? To delete your cookies, from AOL:
  • Go to Keyword: Preferences; click "Internet [Web] Options"
  • On the right side, click "Internet Explorer Settings."
  • There
should be a button that says "Delete Cookies" (note that this will
cause you lose information stored on your cookies, typically Web page
customization or saved login info, which you'd just have to retype the
    next time)
  • Hit "Delete Cookies" to delete your cookies and see if that helps at all.

5.
Have you tried using a separate, standalone browser, like Firefox or
the external version of Internet Explorer? Did that help, or was it the
same? (I will post an entry shortly about how to work with your Journal
from an external browser).

Any information you can provide would be useful. Thanks -- Joe

you are probably going to start getting questions about how to start up a journal with another provider soon.

I still can't save my journals or edit old ones....but all the buttons are showing.  I use the newest form of AOL, have Windows XP, and the save button does nothing when I hit it, I use a high-speed connection, and anytime I try to delete cookies from my computer it just messes up my computer, so I need another option.

Hey Joe,

Only 9 more "updates" to go and you can bury that pesky entry about dropping poo-chunks on our journals!

Meanwhile, I have a riddle for you:

How many AOL Executives does it take to see that NOT ONE CUSTOMER is happy about this little advertising invasion.

Now, excuse me while I advertise the solution to the AOL poo-chunk advertising problem:  http://www.blogger.com.

I am having problems. I have 9.0 aol, windows XP. Its just sits there, no error message. I have DSL. My cookies are cleared. Please help!!! Brandie

I've had trouble with my e-mail and that made me angry. I had my edit window missing and I wasn't happy about that either. Now I can't even ADD an entry to my journal and I'm told I may need to use a stand alone browser. I pay $23.90 monthly for AOL. Earthlink is $9.95. Yes, I'm angry. I don't feel it's courteous to tell a customer to use another browser and go through all the trouble for that amount of money.

Since my computer can't effect everyone.  I know I know don't shoot the messenger!! Sorry.  but you know we're frustrated!

yah, I still can't use my PAID FOR aol journal either.

using 9.0 (optimized to suck) SE, windows xp, broadband cable,

when I click save - nothing happens. deleting cookies didn't help.

maybe they should take all the new stuff down and start new...

yah.

maybe aol should do that.

in the meantime - i'll be over at http://floraliliablogsat.blogspot.com/

I wasn't able to save any entries until I update AOL to SE. I have high speed/windows xp. Now that's it's downloaded saving is fine. Still don't like the advertising though!

What's going on here, Joe?

Did AOL have the forethought (or any thought) to send this "home" with a few of AOL's paid (versus paying) people to run - oh, I don't know - a PRE-screw-the-customer test?!

Why would someone like you WANT to work for something like AOL?!

Why not JOIN THE BOYCOTT, Joe?  You know you want to.

http://journals.aol.com/armandt/sense/entries/813

Then you could tell us the truth about AOL's other customer service "wins" ... like deleting my journal!

Let us know when you sign up for the boycott!  We'll throw a little bbq and we wont invite any of the advertisers or the effing geniuses who thought that would be a good idea!

What a joke.

Who was the rocket scientist that screwed everything up? It's after 6 PM here and I still can't get a new journal entry up. I click save and nothing happens..nada...zip. I hope the powers that be at aol are proud of themselves. I already switched one journal over to Blogspot.

AOL is working very hard at making me go elsewhere for an online server.

Anonymous said...

I can only add entries by jumping on at explorer, going to yahoo, searching for aolmail, signing in, going to my journal, and then adding an entry.

niiice.

nice going aol.

i smell a stampede.

I can't save anything.. this stinks.. I can't add any new entries because of that wonderful save button not working.. I have windows xp and aol 9.0 optimized (yeah sure, it's optimized all right..).. Nothing is working since this big change in whatever you all decided to change over there..The ads really look cheezy.. and I know it may not be a big deal if AOL loses alot of us here from Jland..but a lot of great journalers are leaving the community , if not all soon enough.. Does AOL want that? I don't think it looks good for business..because if that one person tells another and so forth , kinda like a pay it forward in reverse..AOL could lose prospective new customers in the long run as well..
Everything was ok before..so it's not a question of it being our own software issues etc..
Hope you can get this resolved soon!

JOE! This ADS CRAP IS PISSIN ME OFF~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I'm not being recognised as the owner of my journal.

1 - AOL 9.0    Windows XP
2 - Don't have the original buttons to begins with - the add entry etc.
3 - Dial up
4 - Tried that, nothing happened.
5 - ??????

Was able to post entry on IM though.

Good luck on sorting it out! Technology's fun isn't it!

It's a shame Joe and I don't feel sorry for you having to take this from us. As I stated in my last comment, you already knew this was coming and yet, you failed to tell us. Small comfort, indeed! You have gotten fat off the corporate pig (meaning us) just like your bosses. I have no problem with adding entries, I have no problem with my alerts and I have not problem with anything else you mention here. But you know what, if those banner ads stay on my journal by the end of the week, I won't be posting another entry EVER in my journal. So, what are you doing about this, Joe? Are you too busy wiping the grease off your face from another helping of pork?

Placating is bad man. You all have just opened up something bad.

Anonymous said...

When I click the Save button, nothing happens.  Same as the last several hours.  I'm not going to waste my time on all these other ideas.  I'm going to spend it working on my new setup elsewhere.

I'm assuming that AOL has signed some nice fat contracts with these advertisers who are now polluting our journals.  So there's no way the ads are going to just disappear.  I think we have to make our decisions accordingly.

I use AOL 9.0 SE
I have MS Windows XP Millenium
When I click the Save button, it sits there, indeffinately.
Sais it's done.
I have a high speed cable modem connection.
I clean my cache and cookies on a daily basis, no change.
I have HEARD signing in from another browser would allow me to post, don't know that yet.
There's my ten cents worth.  thank you.

See above.

I thought  the weeks and weeks of erratic alerts were bad enough.  But now you've effectivbely hijacked the entire system.

Still not able to save entries. AOL 9.0SE, WindowsXP, Nothing happens when I click save. No it did not show anything in the status bar. High-Speed Cable. No, when I tried deleting my cookies on aol...aol froze. I've also tried adding an entry from internet explorer. It worked but, no matter what font I used the writing was all messed up.

i did NOTcause this problem.    i was making entries with ease last night.    AOL makes wholesale changes and now the SAVE tab no longer works.    Yet you claim it's MY responsibility to fix it.

AOL bites!

And BY THE WAY:

I just went over to my PRIVATE  journal.  I haven't posted there in a  long time, but it's a RELIGIOUS JOURNAL.  And right above a sermon I preached last summer is the lovematch.com ad.

I'm a LIBERAL, for heaven's sake.  I post about Christainity from a progressive, liberal point of view.  But I would NEVER countenance lovematch.com.

Sorry about the caps -- but since I can't post in my own journal, I will just have to be satisifed with what little I can express in this place and John's.

Hi Joe,
I can't get my entries to save either.  I'm using AOL 9.0 with windows XP broadband highspeed cable access.  The save button just sits there when I click on it and I get no messages.  Hey, I know everyone is in an uproar over these advertisements... I don't like them either.  Can they get rid of them?  My journal is slower now too.  Just reading it is very slow.  This is really horrible.  It's like the end of the world to us here in J Land.  I've got a million alerts of unhappy fellow writers here.  Please talk to someone Joe and ask them to reconsider this decision.  My journal doesn't feel like mine anymore.  Thanks very much and would appreciate it if we could get these technical problems resolved.
Hugs,
Lisa

Hello.......I was going to post a new entry in my AOL Journal and it wouldn't let me save my new entry.......I don't know what is happening ? Can you help me to tell me what I am doing wrong I don't understand.

Anonymous said...

I am still unable to save entries to my journal unless I enter through the tedious Instant Messaging procedure.  I use AOL 9.0 SE and Windows  XP.  When I hit my save button, absolutely nothing happens, no error message, nothing in the status bar.  I am on dial-up.  I've tried repeatedly to delete my cookies but everytime I try to go to Keyword:Preferences, I get an error message and am not allowed to go there.  I haven't tried to using a separate browser, because one of the draws for AOL journals for me was how easy they were to use and access. If I'm going to have to have a tutorial for something that used to be and should be easy to use, I have another reason, besides the invasive and inappropriate advertising, to leave AOL journals.

I'm another one that can't save journal entries.  Using AOL 9.0SE, DSL.  Deleted cookies...that took out the picture on the previous entry.  Any other suggestions.

Same here (me, too)--cannot save my journal entries.  I am using AOL 9.0 Security Edition SE with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.  I haven't been having any trouble until this week and when I hit the save button nothing happens.  The only thing that shows in the satus bar at the bottom is "javascriptisaveClick();" and the appears just by running the cursor over the save button.  There is no error message or anything else--it just sits there.   I am on a high-speed cable connection.  I have tried deleting the cookies and that didn't help either.  I have not used any other browser.  Hope you can help get this straightened out.  Thanks.

I can't save my journal entries either. I run AOL 9.0 SE, on Window XP Media Edition. When I hit save, it does nothing. It just sits there. I'm on hi speed (cable). I did try deleting my cookies, but that did not work either. I hadn't tried to work externally, but I'm really not sure how to.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!  I can save my journal entries again, BUT I cannot utilize my Smiley Central icons.  I downloaded them again, successfully; but the tool bar does not appear in my email block anymore.  I could also use the smiley icons in my journal entries before the problem of not being able to save an entry occurred.  What caused this?  Can you FIX this, please?!  Somehow, your repair to the journal has caused this problem.  HELP...thanks.

Hey Joe,
I went in (my very computer inept self) and deleted cookies per your instuctions...(yeah) I was very proud of myself until I realized that it did not solve the problem...I too, have 9.0 SE, and have DSL cable for my connection.  Like the others, I click the save button, but nothing happens...it is so frustrating to take the time to write  sn entry and then not be able to post it!

I, like many others, am having trouble saving my new entries to my journal.  I have AOL 9.0 Optimized and Windows XP.  I am on dialup connection.  I have deleted the cookies but did not help.  When I click the "Save" button it just sits there.   Thank you for your attention in this matter.   PJs7053

I was having problems with 9.0 SE and was advised by AOL phone tech to downgrade to 7.0 -- which I did -- back to the dinosaur! When I open my email the latest email is at the bottom of the list and I am told there is no way to default it to open with the latest email first. Is this true?

Every time I open email I have to make this change.

I do not trust the AOL techs -- they give misleading, contradicting and WRONG info all the time.

I was told the reason for the problem is that a Windows update (I use XP) collided with an AOL update -- whatever that means!
