R9 Install, Journals Outage 4-6 AM 11/2/06

The time has come, my Journals comrades. That's right -- while America sleeps, the Journals team will be installing Journals R9 to production.

Please expect a Journals outage from 4-6 AM during the install. Also, the version of Journals that you saw if you happened to use Journals Beta (as mentioned in my earlier post) should be the standard version from this day forward.

For those of you that did not happen to test Journals in Beta today, the most dramatic changes are visual and shouldn't affect you one way or another.

And please, if you have any problems, mail me or leave them in the comments.

Sleep well ...

I have been noticing the difference in the beta usuage. The pictures are in some in the alerts. The comment section is different also. I tried out the beta form tonight for the first time. Helen

Sleep?!?  Pfft...  Sleep is for the weak.  It's 3:30-ish Central, I've got coffee, and, well...  nothing's broken.

I have started to see some changes, the bit when I make a response - seems to work!
Just sharing one of my todya's thoughts and wishes with you:
I wished when I open my blog/journal that it opens like a book
with chapters that would be my entries from the day I started it
and people to be able to turn the pages as they wish
That's all for today
Good morning to you
Valerie

While Europe sips its coffee, you've introduced the changes, don't forget that LOL.
Anyway, I had a preview in the beta and liked it. It all seems to work, so far.

Nice.  It's going to take some getting used to.  It's a little pastel like a pack of Sweet Tarts.  But, I really don't mind.  It's 25 degrees here this morning, and an Easter Theme might just keep me from going more insane this winter.

So far, no problems.  Of course, I don't know if the alerts are wonky or not since only zombies and me are up at these freakish hours.

so much WHITE!  and the 12 font still doesn't work.  i can't understand why nobody at aol cares to fix that.

geminiwilder-- I got your comment yesterday and forwarded the complaint re: no 12 point front on to the product people. My guess (and it's a GUESS) is that that particular problem would have taken more than 24 hours to fix, and the team was busy installing Journals R9.

As soon as I know what's up with this issue, I'll let you know.

I seem to be having problems aligning pictures from YGP.  They align in my layout, but when I save the entry, the text drops back down to the bottom of the picture instead of lining up on the top.  Its either a glitch or I've suddenly forgotten how to do it after all this time.  For now I'll load my picture up to my ftp and see if it works that way.

Jeff,
When I go to my archive, the entries for 31 October 2006 are NOT listed. Another J-lander noticed a similar problem. Could you investigate?

Since the change my Halloween entry for the 31st October does not appear under Previous Entries. I can see it on my journal, just looked at it but it is not listed under Previous Entries at all.

just emailed you.

I can't get my graphics where I want them.  Took forever for me to learn a few little html codes and now they aren't working!  Yesterday I got the graphic to the right side with text beside it.  Today I can't get it to work.  What's going on?  Can it be fixed?  Am I going to have to learn new codes?

Kathy -- take another look at your graphics code, specifically the "align=right" command. You've got two slash marks (these: //) after that "align=right", but before the >

Like this: "align=right"//>

Lose those slashes and you should be back in the tall clover.

Jeff, I tried again and initially, as before, the picture aligned left in the compose entry screen, but when I saved it, the text dropped back down to the bottom.  When I clicked on to the edit button and switched to html I noticed that there was a '/' in the code which wasn't there when I composed the original entry.  I deleted the slash and saved the entry.  Once again the text appeared on the bottom to the right of the picture, and when I edited and switched to html, the slash had reappeared.  We aren't putting the slashes in, but they keep on showing up.  Any clue as to whats going on?
(by the way, I'm doing all this on my private blog, I don't like to keep on editing my main journal once I post an entry)

align=right or align=left probably never worked reliably.
In HTML mode, the preferred way of doing this would be to use the style attribute and float option.
Float can have the values = right or left.

For example :
Instead of  : <IMG align="right" src="..."/>

Please use  : <IMG style="float:right" src="..."/>

This works for me!
Hope this is helpful.
