R9 in Beta -- Hammer Away

New changes are afoot, my Journals
friends. The R9 release is coming up soon, and
we've already pushed it to Beta so everyone can
play around with it, get used to it, and most importantly, find
bugs
BEFORE we release it.

As always, Product
Manager
Stephanie
BamBam!
has a fuller
update.

The most obvious changes are visual, but we've
changed the way error messages are handled and the Blog This! function a bit,
too.

Here's a
sample look at Journals R9 -- the arrow points out the buttons' new
look:

To join the fun, just place the word
"beta" after the http:// in your URL.

For example: my URL is currently

http://journals.aol.com/journalseditor/magicsmoke

My URL in Beta would be simply

http://beta.journals.aol.com/journalseditor/magicsmoke.

I bolded the "beta" for sake of emphasis only ... please don't drive
yourselves nuts trying to do that.

Have fun, hammer
around, and please mail me about any bugs you find, or leave 'em in the
comments.

I just don't understand what this BETA thing is anyway!

Oh yeah, I have a UK journal & it says I have a limit of 20 MB, where somewhere on THIS blog says each screen name has up to 100MB of storage.
Can you explain?  this has nothing to do with the BETA, but don't know WHERE to address the question & to WHOM.  ; )

Marie,

This link should explain the concept a little better:

will the 12 pt font size finally work, after all these years without it functioning?  please say yes!!!

Jeff if I start a beta journal, will have to also add the same entry to my original journal?

Betty -- you don't have to start a journal in Beta at all. Your current journal is already there -- it's just a matter of seeing it through a new product. Imagine it like this: your blog is a paper diary. We're just asking you to try a new pen.

geminiwilder -- Get in there and try it! And if it doesn't work, let me know! That's the point here ...

OK, I tried & it won't bring me there.  I just add beta where you said.  I am going thru firefox browser & I am using a MAC computer, whats the problem?

Hi Jeff, I tried changing my font to size 12 and it didn't change.  I can't remember the last time 12 worked - it's been a couple of years, I think.  I would really like more font choices too, sometimes I type my entry in an e-mail, using whatever font I like, then I copy/paste into my journal.  That's the only way I can get 12 in there!  Oh well.  The improvments look good, and I'm not one to complain, so I won't.  :)  Happy with what I have.      ~Cindy

ok, it's working now, through both browsers.
never mind...; )

I did they a few weeks ago when you first talked about it.  Some of the things I noticed.  I can tell what size my fonts will be or even if they will stay the same ones.  Everytime I add a picture I have to reset the fonts and size all over again.  Also, this journal included and maybe it has nothing to do with it, but it takes forever for my journal to open up,  I don't notice this in other journals I visit.  I have noticed now when I add an entry the color is blander but works fine so no problem there.  Will have to see what else comes up.

I think it's more like "new paper" instead of a new pen.  If you don't agree, then perhaps we should settle this outside like gentlemen.  You bring your shiny new pen, and I'll wave my hypnotizing new Ninja paper around.  You don't stand a chance.

Seriously, it looks nice, and as I told Stephanie, I like the centering, but I used to fill that big blue void with a DVD window while I was writing.  I'm looking forward to the release.  But, what's the latest with the embedded polls?

Jeff, I don't see any change on my blog with BETA.  Perhaps I will catch on here soon, I hope.  I am still trying to learn how to set the fonts also, as I write at 14,yet it comes out very small..something is amiss there.  But I had earlier wrote to the Journal for tech help, sent by one of the live online techs, as they couldn't fix it..My problem seems to be with the wrap, I have always had my picuures centered at the top of the page, and now it is over on the left hand side, and I cannot change it, even with all the check, and recheck, to eliminate the wrap issue. And of course, I cannot get my width cut back..It is wide, even as I had taken your advice to drop the Capitals each time. My blog looks better also, but need to get these issues taken care of..Thanx Jeff..

My question is ... after adding beta to my address by going into my editing controls, will my readers need to reset their alerts?

Hmmm, as far as I can see, you're making the journals look much more like the message boards. You know, the ones that don't work. Not an association I would have chosen to make were I responsible for it.

Jeff, I am scared to death to try : (
is it only going to change my - edit entry - button and make it smarter??
What's the fun?
AOL can play but I don't want to loose anything
I would even like to save my blogs somewhere, on a CD perhaps but don't even know if this is possible.
Anyway, I will try to hear more about those changes before trying anything and will watch the reactions :D
Be safe
