Friday Blogplugs - 3/28

Hey
folks,

A very happy Friday from all of
us in Northern California. Hope the weather gods are looking on more
favorably at people in the East and Mid-West.

First off, thanks for your
interesting and varied responses to "opening up"
Magic Smoke.

The reason for opening up Magic
Smoke is not because we cannot spend a 1/2 hour or we are trying to
shirk our responsibility.
Magic Smoke is part of the JLand
community, and we want to involve the community in it. This is also in
response to people who wrote to us saying that they wanted see greater
community participation on Magic Smoke.

I also want to clarify
something. I
am still going to be around and will do my best to make this
successful. Also, for now, we will only be adding writers who have
something interesting to say or offer on Magic Smoke.

So, I would urge the naysayers
to give us a chance. If this does not work we will look at
alternatives.

With that, I would like
to invite the JLand community host their games, contests, trivia on
Magic Smoke.
Also, if you feel like
contributing an entry on important days of the year, like Mother's day,
Father's day, Earth day, etc. please feel free to send us email at
journalseditor@aol.com.

Moving on to the task
du jour
, let's see what we have for blogplugs.

* standsbyriver, a new AOL
Journaler(welcome), writes about her abusive childhood in this
entry and this
one. Beautifully written. Please stop by to say hello and bring a
strong heart.

* Robin picks
up some treasure
from
trash
.

* Dawn
completes 3
years
of blogging on AOL Journals.
Congratulations!

* Tawyna's
Wednesday
hero
this week is the Soldiers' Angels Living Legends
Team.

* Ken urges
us to take the time to do a little research – do
not believe
everything you read or hear. He also has another
entry where he writes about complacency
and how we should confront
it.

* Guido has
started a JLand group at AIM groups and invites
you to join
. This is to facilitate quick communication via
email or the messageboard within the JLand community. If you have an
AIM/AOL screenname, you just have to click a button on that page to
join.

* Indigo
describes her
emotions
as she watched her child's emergence from her
cocoon. Nicely
written.

* Lisa writes
that she is in lots
of pain
and she is fighting the good fight. She laments that
writing about her health problems, have cost her friends. (Are you sure
they were friends to begin with?
:))

* Christopher
wants us to help our environment by joining the people who
will be turning
off their lights
for 1 hour on March
29th.

* Marie
writes about resurrection.

* Sherry
wishes
everybody a good Easter and says the flood waters have receded and
things are drying out in her
town.

* Krissy hopes you enjoyed your
special time with loved ones celebrating
Easter. She has some Easter
cartoons
for you and wants you to know that she is having
shoulder
problems
limiting her ability to type. She also has answers
to a meme
started by Dawn.

* gifdude's
thoughts
on easter and he has a video
of ernie haase.

Contests &
Trivia!

* Weekly
sentence with Val.
On brief hiatus. Will be back this
Saturday.

* Dawn has
new weekly feature called "The
Wednesday Word of the Week
" where she will share a word with
us every week. The word this week is Meliorist. I
wish I could use that somewhere
:)

Action!

I wanted to say something to anybody who is complaining about "the same people getting blogplugged".  If you would like to get your entry in Magic Smoke as a blogplug, TAG your entry as "blogplugs" under your entry in the line called "tags".  This will often put you in blogplugs in Technorati, where the journalseditor of Magic Smoke often gets blogplugs for any particular week.  If you don't tag, you can't expect to get picked!  Secondly, you can ALWAYS bring attention to your most important entries by sending an email to the journalseditor and writing blogplugs in the subject line.  My guess is that if "the same old people are always being chosen", then there are not too many people who are blogplugging.  At the end of every Friday Blogplugs entry like this Vish asks everybody to blogplug their most important and useful entries.  I don't think it is fair to him to constantly complain that he is choosing the same people.  If you want to be featured, then start blogplugging.
