Hey, Sexy Pants

Here's the content of an IM spam (or SPIM) I just received. IM Catcher caught it, but I was curious and I wanted to take a look (I don't recall getting SPIM from an ICQ account before), so I opened it. I'm glad I did:
297303857 - ICQ:  Hey Sexy pants, what are you up to? Do you have time to check out my dating profile? yxunfmuikkc[Spam Site URL Removed].orgpdpojtdueyfcwknhljs
A couple of things I saw:

* Notice the domain is a .org. Remember the good old days, when .org was for nonprofit organizations only?

* See also how the URL is padded in front and back with garbage characters. This is presumably to try to reduce the warning flags that make the IM look like spam. Of course, this means that it's no longer a clickable hyperlink, so perhaps that's a sign of desperation? One can only hope...

Thanks -- Joe

I get ICQ spim all the time, usually when I am online 2am or later. I get lots of it about 4 or 5 a night (or morning). I report im spam and block all of them, and if it keeps coming I ignore im's for my session online. Most of the people I talk to aren't online at that time anyway. Do you have any other ideas on how to get rid of that annoying thing???? Tawnya

i get it almost every morning around 8:30 am EST. Usually it tells me to change something so it is a clickable link. YUCK> Tells me they are getting naked now that they have read my profile! For some reason they think I am a guy and I clearly stated I am female! LOL
So let us see if you do HAVE sexy pants! LOL

Joe,

I've just recently started receiving break-through IM's on my AIM account that are bypassing the IM Catcher, despite the fact the senders are NOT in my buddy list.

This is NOT A GOOD THING in my book. Is it possible there is a limit to the number of blocked screennames, thus allowing the bypass to occur if the blocked names list is full?

Curious, I am.  Yellow, I'm not...

Hi Missy -- IM Catcher really helps with this, so see if yours is turned on; go to Keyword: Buddy List Settings and make sure there's a check in the box labelled "Use the IM Catcher organizer to capture IMs from unknown senders." Thanks -- Joe (posted & mailed)
