Migration Update

A Couple of Updates

Issue 1- Failures to Find Journals
Blogger have been examining some of the failure cases that have been reported and after testing URLs given to us, it appears there may be some confusion around URL to use when starting the migration.  So the Journals URL you need to enter should be the one people use to view the blog. The URL should never contain white space.

Example:

Good URL:  http://journals.aol.com/screenname/TitleOfBlogWithoutSpaces
Not So Good URL:
http://journals.aol.com/screenname/Title Of Blog With Spaces

Issue 2- Failure to Upload Journals Image
Blogger is currently having problems uploading Journals images that were added directly from AOL Photos when that feature became available March 2007. These images use the URL structure http://pictures.aol.com/ap/singleImage.do?pid= . Blogger is working on the issue. If you've already imported your Journal to Blogger you may need to reimport it to copy these photos over. Oct 10 Update: Images of the form pictures.aol.com/ap/simgleImage.do?.... are now importing into Picasa Web Albums.

Wonder why mine stalls when trying to transfer.
It aborts after a few minutes and says it failed.
I keep deleting the blog it tries to create in blogspot and starting over but it keeps stopping and then says the transfer failed.

Having the same issue... Stalling and nothing there.. deleting starting over... stalling nothing there... starting over.  I've yet to see it go thru the whole uploade on the bar graphic we see.  ....wondering is it because so many different methods were used over the years to add pictures?

I am reading comments where people are having their transferring stop or "freeze" during the process...Mine did that also...and when it did; I did NOT try to save the process...I just went back to the start transfer page and started completely over...the next time it went through all the way...when I got to my dashboard (or whatever it is called) ...I found that the "frozen blog " was also listed there as: UNFINISHED...I just deleted it...I now have my old journal from AOL and also my new one from blogger. I hope this may help some folks get theirs done.

I wasn't worried about my pictures anyway; I just wanted to save my diary of 4 1/2 years, and the words and comments are there.  I'm happy.

HELP!

I just tried to go through the migration process. I tried it the first time, and it said it had encountered a problem. I followed the steps, and when I navigated back it said it couldn't locate my AOL journal. I tried a third time and then it seemed to go through. I chose a template and everything. Now, there is NO journal entries on the new Blogger blog, and when I checked my AOL blog, there are no entries past August of 2007. Everything else is missing. Not on AOL, NOT on BLogger. Sheesh... did I just lose everything????????

Carly,

So 3 parts to this. One is the missing content...

Which Blog is showing less content?
 Round Robin Challenges
 Ellipsis...The Moonlight Gallery
 Ellipsis

Secondly, what is the Blogger url you created? I need this for Blogger to check your

Thirdly, Blogger's import engine is only able to pull (read) data so it didn't erase content on the Journals side, though I can say Journals seemed to have gone down about 3:23 or so EST this afternoon. Perhaps your migration was in process at that time?

Hi again Carly.

We definitely had an outage that may be responsible for your missing content. We have a hot back up and will work on restoring your content this afternoon. Once you send me the Blogger URL, we can check on the Blogger side. All will be good...

Carly,

We should be able to restore your journal to yesterday's state (if entries are missing). Please provide more details as Frank has requested.

I think all of you are doing such a great job!  My Journals mean a lot to me and I was thrilled to be able to migrate them over with little trouble.  I have two journals and one I had to do twice.

So relieved!

I just wanted to say thank you!

Hugs, Rose
