How you can help us help you...

Hi again,

In order for us to be able to help with migration issues, especially if you got as far as being able to create a Blogger URL, it really helps if you include that URL in your comments when looking for help. While you're at it, please include your AOL Journal URL too, although your comment is associated with a blog we want to make sure we have all the facts.

Have tried 4 or more times and have added blogs to my listing that have no entries migrated.  My aol journal is:  http://journals.aol.com/marainey1/GoodMorningSunshine
My blogger acct that was the first try to migrate is:
http:/sunshinearchive.blogspot.com/
Hope you can help!  Thanks a bunch.

I have what is to my a SERIOUS problem with migration.  I had already opened an account with blogger and started posting about a week ago.  I had assumed that when the migration took place, my old aol journal would be incorporated into the new one - and I see from many other journals that is exactly what happened. They have their journals complete, old and new.  However, mine, Jeannette's Jottings migrated as a totally separate journal!!!  Now I have regular journals on blogger and, of course, I will only post on one but I do want to incorporate my old journal as I have been writing for well over four years on the aol one and there are very precious memories held there.  Please can you help.  Is there any way I can get the two journals together.  I have thought of deleting my old aol one from blogger and migrating once again but I am scared I will lose everything.  I do hope you can help me with this issue.  Simple instructions please, I am a silver surfer and not technically minded.

P.S.  Here is my old aol journal link as well.  As I said, it has not been incorporated into my new blogger journal and I am desperate to get it combined.  I do not need two journals when I will only be writing in one but I do want those archives holding memories that can never be replaced.

Some positive feedback: I was able to move my journal and my husband's today, and all was successful. Thank you to Vish and to everyone who worked on this and set it up so we could move. You all didn't have to do that, but it is very much appreciated.

All my best,
Beth

well my update bar never completely went thru the entire process I just hung up.  I could see it on dashboard and it said not done so I followed the steps to complete but there was nothing there other then the template I selected so I deleted and tried again.  I've done these steps numerous times as told but it never seems to work.  My AOL url is
http://journals.aol.com/nightmaremom/Thisandthatandhockey/
but I've not got anything on blogger so there is no url there.  I will try again now but damn this is getting extremely frustrating.

Jeanette,

You could always move (copy and paste) the entries on the Blog you've had going for a week or two to the imported AOL Journal and just continue blogging there.

Or, you could just provide a link on your Blog to your imported AOL Journal and treat that journal as sort of an archive.

Hope that helps.

Donna(nightmaremom),

Can you try to migrate another one of your journals, even a test journal, and see if that goes thru?

I deleted my test ones...  Let me try my graphic one.. it's under a different name tho

Anonymous said...

forget that I can't even remember my password for that name.. I stopped that one years ago.   This is getting a little ... better yet.. very ridiculous.  I've spent hours and hours on this and I can't even get the freaking dl to complete....

Are you using the AOL Client browser, Nightmaremom?

If you are, try using a stand alone browser.  The AOL thing can give people fits.

Let me start over...
I've tried on AOL.. I've tried on explorer outside aol, and firefox while at work.  I get thru and watch the download bar.. it never gets much further then half way and it bombs out.  I wait and wait.. nothing...  yes I've tried to refresh there too and nothing.  I see it is trying to create it in my dashboard.. I select the name etc.. but there are never any posts.  I delete and start over.

To be honest I've wasted more time on this then I care to admit.  It should not be this difficult.  I've never been private and I know I've got a lot of graphics, but so do others.  I am thinking I will just shit can the whole idea of migrating as it is apparent after a good 20 times it will not work.

Donna,

Just create a new test journal. And try with that one..include some dummy entries..

Jeanne et al,

The way you combine posts from one Blogger blog to another is thru the import/export tool in Blogger. You have to go to http://draft.blogger.com (note the url) and click on Settings. Up at the top there is a section called Blog Tools.

In there you have Import and Export links. So, you export the "new" blog that you created prior to migration and it creates an xml file that you save to your desktop. Then you go to the migrated blog and go to Settings and do an import of this xml file. And voila you have 1 combined blog!

Hope that helps,

Vish

Don't give up, D.

Unfortunately, about the only advice I can give would be the usual stuff about clearing cookies and the cache, and try again, but you've probably tried that already.

Ok, sorry, forgot that new journal creation has been disabled. I will talk to the Blogger folks to see what your problem is.

Vish

Thanks Vish.. apparently the larger the blog the less likely it will go over smoothly.......
Yeap Dan I have over and over... and over again.  thanks

I'm just going to keep reading what others are writing.  I created two of the same blog last night but no posts followed it over to blogger.   No big deal.  I'll try again and if it happens again, I'll ask for help.  My reputation is not as a 'techy'.  Know what I mean?  LOL

Amy,
Have you created a Google account yet?

When I use the link to connect to Google to transfer my journal, I am told my e-mail doesn't exist.  I changed the password three times, but when I asked for help I was told to change the password and it would work.  It still doesn't.

swanoftex, do you have a gmail or blogger account on google? are you able to login to your gmail using this account? This is one of the pre-requisites for being able to migrate your journal.

Vish

Paul - yes, I have a google account.....I can log in and read my friends' blogs and all.  It's just when I go to the transition page and it prompts me to log in, then I get the message that my email doesn't exist.

The above the blog that I want to migrate.  It seems to transfer all the entries usually but hangs up right at the end and leaves the green bar.  Then when I go to my dashboard the blog is there and says that I need to finish updating the new blog.  But none of my entries are there.
What am I doing wrong?
I have a blogger account.  I do not really want it to be in my new blog.  I want it to be a separate blog under my account, which I understand is what it does.  It transferred another of my blog over without issue.
I had created another blog with the same name.  So is this the issue?
My new blogspot blog is also MY Southern Home but in my dashboard I tried giving the supposedly transferred Old My Southern Home a new name and domain but it wouldn't take.  Please help. My New blog on blogger is:
http://mysouthernhome.blogspot.com/
And I want my old blog as a separate other blog on my blogger account.
HELP.

Ok, maybe I should not be reading all the comments...  deleted journals restored, comments restored, (something so many were told could not ever be done when they deleted on accident or their journal just disappeared)  yet the 1919 or so entries on my journal cannot get moved.  I realize it is very large..and carries many many graphics.  Apparently it is so large blogger can't handle it.  As I've been told they've been working on it for 2+ days with no success.  Or are they working on the easier issues and leaving this one very large issue that is affecting so many on the table?

Makes me think I will lose it forever, but also makes me wonder what happens when our new blogs become large.  Will it handle it?  Are we limited as to the size?  Will we be required to start new blogs because we've become too large?

Anonymous said...

I've now managed to move my blog three times (out of about thirty "partial" tries)....it says that the posts are published, but when I go to the blog it is empty.

Thank you for all your help.  My blog helped me through a few miscarriages, a brush with cancer and numerous other life altering events. It is precious to me.

love, Kas

Hi Vish,
Although I was never included in any directories,  I have a blog on AOL.
The AOL blog is http://journals.aol.com/krmprm/Rosesrambling.  I have
recently acquired a spot on Blogger which is http://SeeChellesCollecting.
blogspot.com.   Some of my friends have found the new journal even
without a directory and also a name change,  but I would like to transfer
my archives from Rosesrambling. and also be included in any new directory.
Thanks for your help.  krmprm.aol.com
