Here's a YouTube video that was on BoingBoing today: Microsoft Re-Designs the iPod Packaging:It was apparently created in-house last year by Microsoft graphic designers; it shows the challenges in creating good design and packaging, as well as demonstrating the dangers of trying to reconcile too many different and conflicting requirements.
Though I guess it could also be looked at as a general warning about designing anything by committee.
This next one comes from Slashdot: "Remote Exploit of Vista Speech Control" -- it describes a potential security flaw in the Windows Vista operating system that takes advantage of its built-in speech recognition, and it goes something like this:
- Vista user visits a Web page.
- Something on the Web page triggers a sound file that plays over the computer's speakers.
The sound file is a recorded voice that's designed to trigger a system command (say, something like: "Shutdown...OK") - The sound file is picked up by the computer's microphone; the voice recognition hears the command and executes it.
Have a great weekend, everybody.
Thanks -- Joe

I STILL CAN'T OPEN A NEW BLOG!!!
Poor Microsoft...if they spent half the time getting it right as they do "redesigning" old Bill Gates might be a lot richer.
And speaking of Ipod...Vista upgrades don't appear to be compatible with iTunes. Yayyy!

Hi Joe, My comment doesn't apply but I forgot your email address. I know, nect time I'll put it in my address book. Is there a way to squeeze between font 12 and font 14? You letters look larger than 12 but less that 14. Is it a different script like arial or New yadyada? Input appreciated.

If I upgraded my Explorer.... would it make the Font change,or did I do something else? Note that the font change isn't entirely unpleasant, but it is surprising.
Oh... I also set a first for AOL Journals... a bounty on a human being:

She probably doesn't even know she did it, but Lurkynat left my all-time favorite comment in this piece.
