Hi folks...before the rest of us set off on our weekends, I thought
I'd
do a quick listing of some AOL Journals & AIM Blogs by people
who've been affected by Hurricane Katrina.
As of this
writing, Katrina is in the Gulf of Mexico after hitting South Florida,
causing 6 deaths and a lot of flooding; Katrina is headed for another
projected landfall near the Florida Panhandle around Monday. (You can
see more details in the AOL
News story.)
I did a quick Journals search
on the phrase "Hurricane
Katrina",
plus found some other blogs. It's a mixed bag -- some folks got hit,
some folks got missed and other folks are waiting to see what happens
next.

I'm watching the predicted storm track edge closer and closer to my part of the Gulf coast. It's going to be very bad on the next landfall.

When I read the comments I seen where somone had left a message saying their whole family was there!!! I hope all your family got out before it hit and are ok. Ive not heard of catagory 5 in a long while or maybe just not been paying attention to it. I also see in some of the forcasts another storm is coming from the south east
Someone should address the excessive exaggeration we receive from the news and weather channels when a storm is due. Consistently, reporters forcast a doomsday scenario when we could do with less, and more acurate information. Case in point: what happened to category 4 Katrina that magically turned it into a category 3 at landfall? Could it be that the reporters just can't resist drama? A lot of us who have weathered many hurricanes would like a little more sanity and less hoopla.
Back again. typo on first entry. Katrina was downgraded to category 2, not 3. Unless the severity of this storm was exaggerated to begin with -- better copy.
Years ago we listened to the advisories from the Hurricane Center in Miami at regular intervals and it told us all we had to know.

Your aluminum cans, can help aid the Hurricane victims please read
This is in regards to ask for a your aluminum cans. I would like to set up a fund raiser, that will consist of giving the aluminum can tabs to a church organization that will help the people in the hurricane. If you put your aluminum cans in the recycle box weekly, can I ask you to please do these victims some help by sending the cans to my address were the tabs will be removed and sent to a church were it will help the people with so many upcoming problems. It is only time before the cold weather comes and make matters worst. This kind of giving would be very much appreciated an so helpful.
Please put the crushed aluminum cans in a plastic bag then put the bag in a box and send the box to the address below, no matter the of amount of cans every can may help. I have a list of different aluminum products that can help in different ways, cat food: Friskies, Fancy. As a tax paying citizen I am ashamed that all of people that are in NO have to wait almost a week to receive help. It seemed only after the mayor was on the radio and told the government to get off of thier a--es and come there. See the devasation first hand flying over is not being there. Did the Pres. speak of more help? We dropped tons of food into 3rd world countries and can not do it here. As far as the looters food and necessities I can understand but 10 pair of Nikes to walk on water A color TV when you have no home or electricity just doesnt add up. Still strange we help the poor and minorities in other places quicker than we help our own. They claim they could not get in but the same way the media got in to broadcast to us is the same way relief could have should gotten in. Just hoping nothing else happens major in this country...... DONATING money,food,etc is great if only it reachs the needy... Blessing to all in need
Hi, I am an industrial design student living in California, and I am deeply concerned about the victims of Hurricane Katrina. I would like to design and propose a product that will be helpful/useful in future disasters similar to this one. I have contacted disaster relief programs about the needs of the victims, but I would also like to hear from first-hand experience.
If possible, please tell me what kind of products do the Katrina victims need? Not as in food, water, or shelter... but products such as a portable cookers, sleeping bags... etc. Also, improvements on current products? or products that would be helpful for prevention.
Also, additional information such as age, gender, and location would greatly aid my research.

I'm looking at all these polls on the web, including AOL's, about assigning blame. Nowhere does anyone list the people who ignored warnings, as responsible in any way! This country will never reach it's full potential until we all take responsibility for the choices we make! It's ridiculous that people are arguing about symantics, (ie-should they be called refugees?) when there is still so much to be done. Did you see one photo of someone hitchhiking or complaining there were no buses BEFORE the flood? No! In my mind, MANDATORY evacuation means just that. Anyone who stayed after that point, turned their back on their government and set themselves above the government. They must accept the blame for what happens after that. That said, I am still contributing for their welfare. They are Americans. They are my brothers and sisters.
I plugged in Hurricane Katrina and your journal popped up. I lost my house and everything that I owned. I relocated October 2006. I recently sold what was left of my home in August this year. Almost 2 years to the date that the storm hit. It changed my life forever. Thank you for caring about people like me.
