I'm very pleased that many are already changing to a Blogger blog.
Sue [catslittertray] has come
up with an idea to keep in touch through Facebook. I'm unfamiliar with
that site, but email her direct for details. Suffix her screenie with
@aol.com, and it'll reach her.
Similarly, Sal has set up a group on MSN.
(edit 13.34 BST)
I am extremely concerned about the number of people that are as yet
unaware of the changeover, and have requested Vish to transfer all the
unclaimed blogs to a dedicated Blogger account, admin'd by me. Haven't
had word back yet (it's 5.10 am in CA), but hope it's going to work.
If you don't know which blogs you host on AOL, put the following into your browser's address bar: journals.aol.com/screenname and hit Enter. It'll come up with a list. Or not.
The migration link will be accessible in a couple of days from now.

You guys have saved the day for many though...by continuing post after post on all of this...please keep it up. it's helping a lot of us to be constantly informed on every little aspect of this.
Still no word as to WHEN we will be able to migrate our blogs?
Is it possible to copy the contents of my journal and burn it to a DVD. If it is how would I do that? I am sure that a lot of the others would like to have this option.
Claudia
In my case it was 'OR NOT'. Dang. I'm just gonna laugh ...
Thanks for you updates and information.....I was in a flenzy yesterday but feeling better today, I have my NEW journal up and running, still fine tuning but I think it will work just fine :).

Pharmolo - great job on trying to coordinate things. Appreciate the effort.

I have my new blog up and running but don't like it at all. The layout is all wrong, as is the ease of working. I will give it a run but will probably end up closing. What a real shame. Hope something better opens up.
Julie
Good job taking the reins Guido! I appreciate all of the effort & help you are giving.

Okay...(shaking like a leaf in shock)... I've set up my Blogger account on Google. Am I to wait and my AOL blogs will magically appear on Blogger or do I need to manually move them? Yikes! (not too familiar with the how-to's).

Thanks you all are doing a good job. When everyone calms down it will work out. Paula
I'm concerned about all the bloggers who are unaware, also. But, I thought aol was transfering everyone's to blogger, anyway? Ugh, this shouldn't be so confusing.
Oh, and my DD has facebook; I don't and don't anticipate getting one. I did get the email from Sal (thanks!).
I second Paula's comment below. I think everything will be okay, and you guys are doing a great job getting the information out there and answering questions.

For those that have a myspace I have had a J-land group over there for quite some time....so please feel free to join to keep connected.

Someone should contact the family of Pam (his1desire), who passed away a few years ago. I'm sure they don't want her mother's last words lost to time.
Dan
I am very confused by the
"The migration link will be accessible in a couple of days from now"
What does this mean? Is AOL trandsferring our Journals for us to our new place?
Sharon
What about Kim's I shaved my legs for this???
and all the rest that have passed away that had a journal?
I wrote Pam's daughter to tell her the news. No reply yet.
Dan
As an occasional user of journals, I wasn't really surprised to see the email today telling me of its demise. To be perfectly honest I never really used it more than as an afterthought when I'd occasionally cross post a blog here from another platform. However I thought I'd mention here that Yahoo's main social network Y360 has also been in turmoil since its closure was announced nearly 12 months ago. Like Journal users most people were horrified but the reality is everyone had to find new places to blog and congregate. Google does offer a reasonable alternative in Blogger and a lot of ex 360 users have an account there but without doubt the majority have set up an account at Multiply.com
I just thought It might be of help to someone if I mention Multiply as a possible landing point as the type of user (lets say those that are slightly too mature to be considering Bebo or Myspace..) on journals seems very similar to those on Yahoo 360.
For the moment I am using thinkinglizard.blogspot.com --
here I had thinkinglizard/sh/ -- Let me know if I need to
change the name I have chosen. Thank you, Brian Salchert

ok, where's that "migration link" it's been more than a couple of days & still waiting.

I hope you are still going to send e-mails out to everyone like you promised with instructions for migrating our blogs.
What happened to the Oct. 7th migration?
Traci
I've had a blogger account for a few years with a gmail email address, which is the same as my aol screenname/email address. I've already deleted that blog at blogger (there were no entries anyway) but, should we also delete our gmail address if it's the same as our AOL in order to migrate?
I hope the above question made sense.
Thanks!
Uh oh, did I miss the great migration (eviction) Am I now destine to become extinct along with everything else that was once good at AOL?
I still don't see how the migration (eviction) is supposed to work. In theory perhaps, but transferring such a massive amount of data from one location to another in such a narrow time span (which grows narrower by the day) is like trying to evacuate the population of New York City and all of their belongings using Captain James T. Kirk's transporter. Something is going to crash and burn, and poor Scottie will be down in the engine room screaming 'I don't know how much longer I can hold 'er, Capt'n!'
Realistically I don't think it can be done. I wanted to believe that with all of today's technology it could be done, but you know what they say, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. All I want is more time to get things transferred over the old fashioned way (Sorry Captain Kirk, I love you and all, but we all know there's not enough room on the Enterprise for me, my dust bunnies, the Oompas and all of the other J-Landers.)
Well, I'm off to sit back and stare at the screen without blinking so I don't miss the great migration (eviction). See you all on the other side.
